For most of the questions on the IB chemistry exam you don’t have to worry about putting the state symbols. There are some questions though, that specifically ask for them, like question #3 from the November 2016 exam. To answer it correctly one needs to take into consideration the normal state of the element or compound at room temperature. The scoring is set up to award 1 if both compound and state are listed, but a 0 if only the compound is listed.
